A list of items that are acceptable to put in Olathe blue recycling carts.

Curbside Recycling Collection

All residential solid waste customers have access to curbside recycling. Recycling is picked up bi-weekly on the same day as trash service.

Residential customers can help ensure a smooth collection process by following these guidelines:

  • Place carts at the curb before 7 a.m. on designated collection day.
  • Point arrows on the cart toward the street.
  • Allow three feet between each cart and other objects.
  • Place all acceptable recyclable materials loosely in the cart loosely
    • No need to sort items.
    • Mixed paper should be dry.
    • All containers should be rinsed.
    • Labels do not need to be removed.
    • Removed styrofoam, waxed paper liners and other packing materials from cardboard and chipboard
    • Flatten boxes or cut down to 4-feet by 2-feet.
  • All recycling should fit inside the cart.
  • Do not place unaccepted materials in blue recycling cart.
  • Remove carts from curb by 5 p.m. the day following collection.
  • Store carts inside garage or beside residence when not at curb for pick-up.

Residential customers are supplied with a 95-gallon blue recycle cart. If needed, customers can also request an additional 95-gallon cart free of charge.
