Blasting activities continue along the alignment of the new sanitary sewer lines, with work now occurring along the north side of Cedar Lake. After this area is completed, the blasting contractor will complete the remaining areas near 127th Street and then between Old 56 Highway and 159th Street. Notifications continue to be provided to all impacted properties along the blasting corridors.
In the last month, pipeline crews began installing the first sections of the sanitary sewer line starting at the City’s Cedar Creek Wastewater plant located on 119th Street adjacent to Cedar Creek. Crews will continue to work south from this area, while additional pipeline crews have begun installing pipe south of 135th Street. Beginning in the next couple of weeks, a third set of crews will begin installing pipe from the future pump station building located on Dennis Avenue and will cross Dennis Avenue and move south towards Old 56 Highway. As part of this work, Dennis Avenue will be closed for a period of 4-6 weeks beginning in mid-July to allow for the pipe to be installed across Dennis Avenue. Information on this road closure along with detour information will be available on the City’s webpage for Road Closures: https://www.olatheks.gov/government/public-works/road-closures-construction-projects
On May 19, 2025, Cedar Lake Park was closed to the public while sewer line construction work begins across the north side of Cedar Lake Park. Following the sewer line construction, the City will begin a construction project to make improvements to the existing dam at Cedar Lake Park. Cedar Lake Park will remain closed during construction of both projects and is expected to reopen once restoration is completed in 2026. Also on May 19, 2025, the Cedar Creek trail between Cedar Lake Park and Old 56 Highway was closed. Large sections of the Cedar Creek trail between Dennis Avenue and Cedar Lake Park will be impacted by construction activities and will remain closed until restoration of the trail is complete. As portions of the trail are restored, the City will gradually reopen portions of the trail to public access. As trail sections reopen, this information will be posted to this project page and will also be communicated out through Olathe Park & Recreation communications. At this time, it is expected that the first sections of the trail will reopen south of Dennis Avenue sometime in the Spring of 2026.
There will also be intermittent trail closures along Johnson County’s Cedar Niles trail between 135th and 119th Street during this project. Information on trail closures along Johnson County trails can be found on the county’s Rainout Line webpage: https://rainoutline.com/search/dnis/9136866220

The above ground portions of the pump station will begin construction in early 2026 with expected completion occurring sometime in late Summer/early Fall 2026.
