Patrol is the core operational function of the Olathe Police Department (OPD).

Patrol officers are the first-responders for public service calls; and they cover the streets of Olathe 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Officers drive black and white patrol cars equipped with state-of-the-art technology; and they are equipped with top quality gear to assist the officers in their duties.

Patrol Duties

• Provide community-oriented problem solving
• Patrol the City to preserve law and order
• Discover and prevent criminal activity
• Enforce traffic and other ordinances
• Respond to alarms, public service calls, traffic accidents and criminal activity
• Photograph and collect evidence
• Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects of criminal activity
• Prepare reports to include: arrests, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed
• Arrest and maintain the custody of prisoners
• Conduct breathalyzer tests and record the results
• Book prisoners and transfer them to jail
• Negotiate with suicidal persons and barricaded subjects at hostage incidents
