Update: The investigation has been reclassified as a homicide. The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old James Hart of Kansas City, Missouri. All parties involved have been contacted. The Olathe Police Department is investigating a shooting that left an adult male deceased. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 5th, 2026, at approximately 7:55 p.m. near the 2300 block of East Willow Drive.
Officers responded to a report of an armed disturbance where a man was said to have been shot. Officers arrived and found a 51-year-old man suffering from critical injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Another involved 55-year-old male was contacted at the scene.
There is no ongoing threat to the public.
