Olathe wins award at KPHA Conference

Post Date:09/13/2024 9:49 AM

The City of Olathe was selected as the 2024 recipient of the Public Health Policymaker of the Year Award from the Kansas Public Health Association.

Olathe was recognized for exceptional service to Kansas in public health, particularly in the City’s efforts to remove lead pipes in the community to ensure residents have safe drinking water. This award, given annually to local, state, and federal lawmakers who are public health champions, is a testament to the hard work of City staff to make a positive impact.

As previously shared, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) in the Federal Register to protect public health. Olathe has set state and national standards on compliance, completing the service line inventory over a year in advance of the October 2024 deadline.

Distribution Compliance Manager, Megan Spence and members of our Utility Maintenance team attended the award ceremony on Thursday, September 12 to accept the award.
